Good Food - 2026

"This independently owned pub, said to be the oldest in Marylebone, is a real find. Legendary Tuesday quiz nights feature a roll call of famous question posers – Glenn Close is among the recent recruits – while at the relaxed Sunday sessions, punters enjoy pints of stout and Maldon oysters from the trolley to a soundtrack of live folk music. There’s even a thriving darts league. Many of the staff are jobbing actors who bring a heavy dose of creativity to popular open mic events and singalongs."

Thanks to Good Food for including us in their 2026 '15 Best London Pubs' list. Read the full article here!

The Standard - 2025

"Is this Marylebone’s best pub? There’s no question. Some might call it an “old man’s pub” cloyingly. The point is, it’s a proper boozer in a flash part of town, with velvet-capped bar stools, wood paneling, quiz nights and jukebox-inspired tunes. The Guinness makes for a fine pint and is most notable given it’s found in a part of town relatively devoid of decent ones."

A lovely write up in The Standard. Read the full article here!

Local Legends - 2024

"London’s leading pub tour guide and host of the celebrated Liquid History Tours guides readers off the beaten path and through the doors of London's lesser known but most authentic pubs. Welcome to the world of London’s finest backstreet boozers."

Having already briefly featured in his first book ‘Liquid History’,   John Warland and acclaimed photographer Horst Friedrichs invited us for an interview back in 2023 for their upcoming  book ‘Local Legends’.

We are incredibly privileged  to be included in this poignant piece of work!

The Lock In - 2017

The Lock In was an award-winning short film, shot on location at the pub, co-directed by current gaffer Will Norris and Craig Gallivan.

It was a real Barley Mow affair, with the screenplay written by Gary Shelford,  an original score by Jody Lahart and Moses Moorhouse, and with a cast including Caolan Byrne and Lesley Harcourt, who all worked at the pub at the time.

A black comedy telling the story of Colin, a disgruntled landlord, who after years of dealing with abusive customers, finally takes his revenge!
